First Gilbert Melendez bailed on him, and undefeated lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was left dangling in the wind. Now it seems the list of fighters who want no part of the Russian is growing. According to Dana White’s Twitter, Nate Diaz was offered the opportunity to scrap with Nurmagomedov – but the TUF winner and Stockton badboy turned the match-up down.

Granted, there’s no upside to facing an up-and-coming fighter with the momentum Nurmagomedov has. After all, what would two recent title contenders like Melendez and Diaz have to gain if they won? But Nurmagomedov is 5-0 in the UFC and 21-0 overall, and he sports pretty decisive wins over the likes of Pat Healy, Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavarez, so it’s entirely possible that Melendez and Diaz could get their asses kicked. And then what?

Hopefully Nurmagomedov gets a suitable opponent soon. He deserves a step up in competition, and we deserve to watch him dish out another beating.
