Jon Jones may not be rematching Alexander Gustafsson after their close war, however “Bones” still voiced his opinion recently in the media on the matter of “The Mauler’s” next opponent. Jones believes he received an easy” match-up, in his climb back to a title fight.
Following the remarks, UFC President Dana White was none to pleased with the criticism, reminding his subordinate that he’s not a match-maker.
“Jon, I love you, you’re not a matchmaker. Fight your fight, he’ll fight his fight, and don’t worry about it. When you talk like that it makes it sound like you’re worried about it. Both [Gustafsson and Manuwa] are strikers. I think it’s going to be a stand-up war. I think anything is possible. This happens all the time. Same f—ing thing people said about Gustafsson. ‘Oh, Gustafsson is going to fight f—ing Jon Jones. Jon Jones is going to kill him.’ Okay.”
Jones will have his hands full as he attempts to defend his title against Chuck Liddell’s apprentice–knockout artist Glover Teixeira at UFC 165. Teixeira is on a 5-0 rampage in the organization, including a recent first round knockout of Ryan Bader.
