Everyone loves a good grudge fight (Jones vs. Cormier). Apparently even more than a long win-streak. Of course I’m referring to Glover Teixeira’s name change to Skip. Following his 20th straight victory, with a first round TKO of Ryan Bader, it was assumed Teixeira would be next in line for a title shot . This may not be the case after all. Instead, UFC president Dana White has told fans during his Google+ hangout that Daniel Cormier will become the number one contender, not at heavyweight, but at light heavyweight against the winner of Jon Jones versus Alexander Gustafsson, should he win his next fight.

Of course, as you see, decisions can change day to day. The final outcome likely hinders on Cormier’s performance against Roy “Big Country” on Oct. 19 at UFC 166. The organizations order of operation is to try to find a happy medium between what the fans want to see and what makes sense to their match-makers. No doubt, the build-up to a heated champ vs. Olympian title fight would garner interest quickly. Can’t say it isn’t one I wouldn’t want to see.
