According to sources in the cable industry , early rating numbers are showing Zuffa’s first WEC pay-per-view event 48 Aldo vs. Faber a huge success being estimated between 150,000 and 200,000 buys. If this estimate is accurate the success of the event was much higher than anyone or even the organization ever imagined.
Notably this was the first WEC event handled by the UFC staff. This included introductions by Bruce Buffer, commentating by Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, and promotional marketing tactics headed by Dana White. All this along with the lack of WEC branding leaving the imagination to assume it was a UFC event.
The free Prelims that aired prior to the event on Spike TV drew an average of 1 million viewers, which played a main factor in the pay-per-views success. The last prelim aired was an exciting match that left viewers wanting more in what is being called one of the greatest fights in MMA history between featherweights Leonard Garcia and Chan Sung Jung. If you have not seen it yet we highly advise you take a look.
