Days after his win against Raphael Assuncao, Urijah Faber is already looking for another fight; this time against featherweight champ Jose Aldo. After watching several of Aldo’s fights, Faber believes he is ready to take on the champ.
“It’s going to be a close fight, but the advantage point for me is first off the speed neutralizing him, and second having an advantage in the grappling, and understanding what his weapons are. His knees and kicks are going to be one thing, and his hands, but being aware of it is going to make it easier for me.” Faber said last week on MMAWeekly Radio.
“Aldo’s got the champion’s mentality. I really think he believes no one’s going to take his belt,” Faber commented.”I believe that is my belt, and that I am going to take it, and that’s what great fights are. It’s just basically two guys that are top dogs, two guys who are alpha males, and dedicated to their art, and looking forward to a fight.”
No time has been given for when the bout will be, but most believe it will take place at the WEC debut on pay-per-view in 2010, as the headlining bout.
“I would say mid-May would probably be ideal for me,” Faber said. “Mid-May, maybe late April, that’s kind of close, but I feel great. I don’t really take time off. I’m ready to fight, I’m ready to get this belt, to continue to build my name, and blow up MMA and the light weight classes and the WEC.”
If the fight does happen at this event, it is believed to possibly be the biggest in WEC history.
