UFC President, Dana White has just let the huge cat out of the bag; the WEC is now officially part of the UFC as of Jan 1st 2011. This now adds bantamweight and featherweight classes to the UFC roster. Also the two lightweights will collide very soon. Winner of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard will fight winner of Henderson vs. Pettis to unify belts.

The earliest change will be featherweight champ, Jose Aldo will be defending his belt at UFC 125: Resolution against an unnamed challenger at this time.

The merger also adds four fights for 2011 on the Versus network. The WEC will finish out its two last events at WEC 52, WEC 53 this year before moving under the UFC banner in January. White explained that the plan is to keep all fighters, including the lightweights on the roster.
