UFC 161’s main event between former champions Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans did not fail to deliver. After three rounds of back-and-forth hand-slinging, “Suga” picks up the judges split-decision (full results here).
Not too out of character, but as Chael Sonnen notes, Henderson stuck to a low-stance throughout, waiting for the takedown attempts that came sparsely, surprisingly. Evans had a different plan in mind which proved to be the right one — to use his speed and beat Hendo to the punch. There was a knockdown by Hendo in the first with a stiff jab, but it was Rashad who proved to be the more conditioned fighter, using his stamina to out-strike him in the second and third.
The win snaps a two-fight loss for Evans, while putting Dan on his second loss, after his controversial decision defeat to Lyoto Machida.
