UFC Fight Night 73 may go down as the night Glover Teixeira re-established himself as a force in the light-heavyweight division, or the event where Amanda Nunes made a case for her getting a title shot, but the co-main event saw something noteworthy go down – for all the wrong reasons.

Michael Johnson and Beneil Dariush – two fighters on the ascent and riding impressive win streaks – battled for three full rounds. It seemed Johnson had done more than enough to earn the decision, as his boxing was a constant factor in marking Dariush up, and the Iranian-born fighter was stuck throwing single strikes from a distance, missing takedowns, and on the wrong end of the aggression equation.

But then the scorecards were read, and Dariush was awarded the split decision.

It was a robbery, plain and simple. Not a huge one. Not anything that warrants a formal investigation into the judges’ bank accounts to determine if a payoff was made. But enough of a crime that the arena was filled with boos, and now we get to speculate at home if Dariush really deserved that win.
