Vitor Belfort has added a little fuel to the fire for his upcoming fight with UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman.

Over the weekend, Weidman was named the “Fighter of the Year” at the World MMA Awards – and Belfort took exception.

“It was embarrassing,” said Belfort, during an interview with Radio Beat 98 (thanks to Combate for the quotes). “Not that it should’ve been me, but winning the award after just one fight?

“It’s shameful. He won one fight. The other (fight) was accidental.”

Belfort would be referring to Weidman’s win last July over Anderson Silva for the title, while he earned a TKO victory in the December rematch after checking a kick from “The Spider” that left Silva with a broken leg.

“The Phenom” went 3-0 in 2013, defeating Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson – all via finish in Brazil.

The two will get a chance to settle their differences in May when they collide at UFC 173.
