When he retired back in 2013, he was at the top of the welterweight division, but his fights were getting harder and harder. And then Georges St. Pierre was gone before the inevitable loss would snatch away his belt.
The UFC – in desperate need of a big-money fight to generate cash – has since lured the Canadian out of retirement, and offered up mouthy middleweight champ Michael Bisping as an opponent with Madison Square Garden as the backdrop.
So what now? Now it’s all about reminding fans who this dude is, because though absence makes the heart grow fonder, the rule about being “out of sight, out of mind” can turn a popular fighter into a dud.
