Well, that did not take long. Just a few hours after Demetrious Johnson was announced as pulled from the main event of the TUF 17 Finale, Dana White tweeted the replacement. Now Urijah Faber will be taking on Scott Jorgensen at TUF finale, which takes place on April 13 in Las Vegas, N.V. This will be a quick turn around for Faber, who just fought last weekend at UFC 157. Jorgensen has not fought since December 8 at a UFC on Fox event.
Faber is trying to get back into title contention after losing the chance to claim the interim bantamweight championship last year when he fought Renan Barao. He rebounded nicely with an amazing first-round submission of Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157. The UFC is reluctant to put him into another title fight after losing his last five attempts at gold. A win against Jorgensen will most likely line Faber up for a number-one contender’s match down the road.
Jorgensen has had his ups and downs since challenging Dominick Cruz for the title. Since that fight, he has gone 3-2, which includes impressive wins over Ken Stone, Jeff Curran and John Albert. His losses came to top bantamweight fighters Barao and Eddie Wineland. Claiming to want to get back into the top ten at 135, a win over Faber would shoot Jorgensen up the rankings. While this is not the title fight that was originally supposed to happen, it is a great fight on short notice.
