Dana White has given the official word.

During the live showing of The Ultimate Fighter we learned that Urijah Faber will in fact fight Renan Barao for the bantamweight interim title on July 7th in Las Vegas, NV. The bout will co-headline UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen. The news comes after an ACL injury suffered by current bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz. The champ is looking at an eight month layoff (minimum) to recover.

Brazilian fighter, Barao is currently on one of the longest running win streaks in MMA history with 26 wins out of his 28 fights. Only losing in his first ever bout to Joao Paulo Souza and receiving a no-contest for an illegal soccer kick in 2007. The 25-year-old has looked spectacular in his short UFC career as he submitted Brad Pickett and took out Scott Jorgensen and Cole Escovedo.

Faber may not have gotten the grudge match he was looking to settle, but still sees Barao as a big opportunity to prove himself against another top bantamweight in the world. Faber has suffered recent losses in his career, but they’ve came after an impressive title run in the WEC promotions. The former champ has only come up short against top champions, Jose Aldo, and Cruz.
