As another champion falls to an extended set-back, the UFC looks to fill the void with an interim title holder.

UFC president Dana White made an appearance on Fuel TV’s UFC tonight show to announce that there still will in fact be a bantamweight interim title fight shortly, due to the current champ, Dominick Cruz suffering an ACL tear. White says it’s  just about finding the right opponent to face-off against top contender, Urijah Faber. As we’ve stated before, the likely choice would be Renan Barao or Ivan Menjivar. The two are currently set to face-off against each other at UFC 148. The third dark horse in the mix is prospect, Michael McDonald, who was just seen knockomg out former bantamweight title holder Miguel Torres in the first at UFC 145.

It’s understandable for White to say that they are unsure who it will be, but Barao is currently riding a 28-fight-winstreak and has looked stellar in his UFC career. As for Cruz, he will stay on for coaching duties of the Ultimate Fighter Live according to White. The fact that the two next in line are already set to fight does not mean they would not make a change for the interim title, as it’s been done before. Michael may not have the credentials that Renan currently does, but he has a lot more visibility with his last knockout. We should know soon enough. Keep an eye out for a possible announcement on Friday’s TUF showing.
