As most MMA fans and pundits expected (or hoped), considering where they sit in the bantamweight rankings, the UFC has announced that Urijah Faber will throw down with Michael McDonald next. The bout will co-headline UFC on FOX 9, which will take place in Sacramento, California on December 14th.

Now, according to UFC  Tonight’s Ariel Helwani, the promotion is also hoping to book Anthony Pettis versus TJ Grant for the card, but Grant reportedly said he’d prefer to fight in January. The lightweight was forced to withdraw from UFC 164 last month due to a serious concussion.

Faber (29-6) fought at UFC FN 26 on August 17th, and worked his way to a unanimous decision over Yuri Alcantara. The win was “The California Kid’s” third straight since he was defeated by interim champ Renan Barao last July.

McDonald (16-2) is also coming off a win at UFN 26, as the rising star tapped out Brad Pickett with a second round, triangle-choke. The victory got “Mayday” back on the winning track, after he was submitted by Barao at UFC on FUEL TV 7 in February.

So, not only is that a great fight which features the #2 ranked bantamweight in Faber and the #3 McDonald, but considering their abilities it could be a barnburner.
