Unless you’ve missed all of the 2013 UFC campaign thus far, chances are you’re more than familiar with the name Conor McGregor. The reason being, of course, that in addition to the two wins he’s scored since arriving in the UFC, “Notorious” has turned more than a few heads by making some rather ‘bold’ statements. Case in point, McGregor recently relayed that if he fought Diego Sanchez, the rugged vet wouldn’t “land one shot.”
Of course, more than a few fighters now have made it clear they’re not big fans of McGregor’s trash talk (Cole Miller recently called him a “show pony”), but one man who doesn’t seem to mind it is Sam Sicilia. While speaking to Bloody Elbow.com in advance of his UFC Fight Night 32 bout with Godofredo Castro tomorrow, the TUF vet had this to say about McGregor:
“I actually like his fighting style, and don’t disagree with some of the things he says. It is not my approach to talk down about other fighters though, but it is a way he promotes himself, and it is working because he is currently injured and people are still talking about him. Don’t know enough about him yet. I wish him a speedy recovery.”
And what about trash talk just in general? The 27 year-old featherweight added:
“I don’t know. All of my opponents in the UFC so far have been from South America and have been respectful. Once I come across an adversary that talks badly about me, I will probably respond, but I prefer to keep my mouth shut, do my job, and finish fights with KOs.”
That is an effective way to make your point. No question. Sicilia’s fight with “Pepey” is a big one, as after knocking out Cristiano Marcello in the TUF 15 Finale, the American has dropped two straight to Rony “Jason” and Maximo Blanco.
UFC FN 32 will go down in Goiania, Brazil, and will feature Vitor Belfort taking on Dan Henderson in the main event. Stay tuned to Caged Insider.com for all your UFC news and coverage.
