The main event of Ultimate Fight Night 28 did not disappoint the crowd in Belo Horizonte, Brazil — as returning hero Glover Teixeira recovered from some early damage at the hands of Ryan Bader to stop the American with punches at 2:55 of round one.
Bader attacked from the opening bell, landing a left hook and a jab, then falling back for a guillotine choke in hopes of an early finish. Teixeira escaped but would be stunned by a left hook. Bader tried to follow up with uppercuts and right hands, but was cracked by a right hand/left hook combination by the Brazilian which sent him to the mat.
Teixeira, originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil, but now fighting out of California, followed up with punches until referee Herb Dean called a halt to the action at 2:55 of the stanza.
The victory marks Teixeira’s incredible 20th consecutive MMA win. Bader, of Arizona, has now lost two of his last three.
