After the black cloud that hung over UFC yesterday with the announcement of Alistair Overeem’s failed drug test, the UFC brass was able to announce a little bit of a bright spot for themselves. UFC has finished the negotiations with Sony Pictures Television’s Multi Screen Media (MSM) to air UFC programming in India and its subcontinent for the course of four years.

UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta stated, “When we went to India over a year ago, I felt the market held enormous potential for the UFC.” Lorenzo also discussed india’s long history with mixed various martial arts, as well as their accomplishments in combat sports at the 2008 olympics. Dana white added that , “I’ve been saying for a few years that India would be next, and it was just a matter of finding the right partner in the market. MSM has been a pioneer in India, broadcasting new sports franchises like the IPL. We’ve got big plans for India, and MSM couldn’t be a better partner.” As of right now there are only plans to air live events, taped specials such as Best of Pride and  UFC unleashed, while plans of a country specific Ultimate Fighter could be in the works soon.
