According to the newest issue of TATAME magazine, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is interested in fighting middleweight champion Anderson Silva at light heavyweight.

Silva, the long reigning middleweight champion, is a training partner of former champion Lyoto Machida, so the possibility of a title bout between the two was non-existant. However, with the recent victory of Shogun over Machida, a title bout with Silva is now possible.

Silva and Shogun are no strangers, as they used to train at the prestigious Chute Box academy. However Shogun made it clear that although he may respect Silva in the gym, but the two were never close. “I’ve always admired Anderson on the gym, but we were never friends… If UFC wanted to, I’d confront Anderson”, the current champion says.

With Shogun sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury, and a bout scheduled with Rashad Evans upon his return to the octagon it is unknown whether or not this bout will ever come to fruition, or is simply wishful thinking on Shogun’s part.
