Welterweight James Head knows who he’ll battle at the August 28th, UFC on FOX Sports 1 card in Indianapolis, as the promotion has announced Jason High will be his new opponent. Head had been scheduled to fight Bobby Voelker; however, the welterweight was tapped to fight Robbie Lawler at UFC on FOX 8, when Siya Bahardurzada went down with an injury.
Head (9-3) hasn’t fought since December when he was taken out by Mike Pyle with strikes in the opening round. Prior to the loss, Head had defeated Papy Abedi and Brian Ebersole in back-to-back fights, after losing by decision to middleweight Nick Ring.
High (16-4) will be looking to rebound from the quick submission loss he suffered versus Erick Silva in June, at UFC on FUEL TV 10. The bout marked the first time High had competed in the Octagon since March, 2010, when he lost by decision to Charlie Brenneman and was released by the promotion. In between, High went on a seven fight winning streak, which included three victories under the Strikeforce banner.
UFC on FS1 2 will be hosted by the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and will feature Carlos Condit versus Martin Kampmann in the main event. With the addition of Head versus High, the card has 13 bouts signed.
