Max Holloway has been moved into an August 17th bout with fellow featherweight prospect Conor McGregor, as the latter’s original opponent, Andy Ogle, has withdrawn from the UFC on Fox Sports 1 card. The event will be hosted by Boston’s TD Garden Arena.
According to the official announcement from the UFC confirming the switch, Ogle was forced to withdraw because of a staph infection.
Holloway (7-2) will be looking to rebound from the tightly contested, split decision loss he suffered versus Dennis Bermudez at UFC 160, after scoring wins over Justin Lawrence, Pat Schilling, and Leonard Garcia. “Blessed” is only 21 years old.
McGregor (13-2) demonstrated why his Octagon arrival had so much hype in April, by stopping Curtis Brimage in just over one minute at UFC on FUEL TV 9. The 24 year-old fighter and former Cage Warriors champ (at featherweight and lightweight) has won nine straight fights.
That fight could produce plenty of memorable fireworks and is a huge opportunity for Holloway, considering the run McGregor’s been on.
UFC on FS1 1 will feature “Shogun” Rua taking on Chael Sonnen in the main event, Alistair Overeem fight Travis Browne, as well as Urijah Faber battle Yuri Alcantara.
