Michael Johnson lost a crappy decision to Beneil Dariush back in August, and the “L” threatened to derail his nonstop ride to the top spot as lightweight challenger. But few saw that as anything more than a bump in the road.

“I don’t even see that as a real loss,” said a motivated and upbeat Johnson at the UFC on FOX 17 open workouts. “No one has treated that as a loss for me.”

That may be true. On Saturday, Johnson will square off against the veteran Nate Diaz, and a win could have him in line to face whoever wears the crown when the time comes. But even just being on such a high-profile card (note: the card airs on FOX’s main network) seems to supersede all concerns of fighting for the belt.

“Everyone who’s on this card is someone the UFC wants to show off,” said Johnson.

That’s definitely true, and with all the viewers guaranteed to tune in, it’s the perfect opportunity to shine.
