There are several bouts scheduled for tonight’s UFC on FOX 8 card that have the potential for plenty of jaw dropping moments, and Robbie Lawler versus Bobby Voelker is definitely one of them. Unless you’re new to all this cage fighting stuff, then you likely know that Lawler is one of the more feared strikers in the game, evidenced by the fact that his last 10 victories have come via way of knockout or TKO. Now that’s someone who finishes fights.

Voelker may not have the same knockout ratio, but the vet has also stopped his fair share of opponents, and scored three stoppage wins in five Strikeforce bouts. If you saw his Octagon debut versus Patrick Cote at UFC 158, then you also know that Voelker isn’t one to shy away from striking exchanges.

Voelker recently spoke to MMA about his bout tonight with Robbie Lawler, which materialized after Siyar Bahadurzada dropped out of UFC on FOX 8 due injury. Voelker was originally scheduled to fight James Head on August 28th, but as he noted in the interview, when the chance to fight Lawler came up, he jumped on it. Short training camp be damned.  “Vicious” also offered this analysis of Lawler, which seems to be pretty spot on.

“He’s extremely athletic, extremely skilled, but we focus on stuff he doesn’t [often] do,” said Voelker. “He’s a great wrestler. He might change his mind and decide to start using it. But specifically, those hands, that speed, that power he has, you’ve got to be ready for that, or else he’s going to eat you up.”

If you’re picking a scrap that has “Fight of the Night” potential, Lawler-Voelker is certainly a strong contender. UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by Seattle’s Key Arena.
