Welcome to CagedInsider’s coverage of UFC on FOX 23, which consists of me soaking in the majesty that is a superior FOX card while reading tweets about Conor McGregor’s live interview Across the Pond (he just unleashed a stream of profanities about Nate Diaz, which is pretty standard).

Anyway, first up in the Fight Pass prelims is Jason Gonzalez versus JC Cottrell. Both guys can grapple, but as with any fight, it will likely come down to who is more adapt at imposing their will.

Round 1 opens with both men tagging each other – Cottrell with his hands and Gonzalez with his kicks. However, when Gonzalez rocks his foe with an uppercut, Cottrell instinctively hoists him up and slams him, and we’re suddenly watching Cottrell go to work from on top while Gonzalez stays busy on bottom. That busy-ness eventually translates into a scramble, and soon Gonzalez has a D’Arce choke latched on tightly. Cottrell has no choice but to tap.

Results: Jason Gonzalez def. JC Cottrell via Submission (D’Arce Choke) at 3:54, R1
