Welcome to CagedInsider’s live coverage from the Amway Center in Orlando, FL, for UFC on FOX 17. This will differ slightly in the usual fight-by-fight coverage only in that I might get pelted by beer cups by irate audience members if something happens that they don’t like (which is not a threat when I’m sitting at home watching the fights).
First up, a Fight Pass prelim featuring heavyweights Luis Henrique and Francis Ngannou. Don’t recognize those names? Don’t worry about it!
From the outset Luis Henrique makes it clear he doesn’t want to play the face-punching game with his opponent, opting instead to hunt for the takedown and get something going there. And he’s successful at first, catching a kick and putting Ngannou on his butt. But the ground-and-pound onslaught never really comes, and a referee standup has Ngannou showing why trading leather is a bad idea, as he tags his foe once and immediately has Henrique diving for cover.
The second round is when the end comes for Henrique, with the Frenchman brushing off his efforts to clinch and opening up with a flurry that sends Henrique into dreamland.
Result: Francis Ngannou def. Luis Henrique via KO (punch) at 2:53, R2
