Fight fans! The UFC continues their strong 2015 start with a solid UFC on FOX offering tonight, all the way from Stockholm, Sweden.

The show features two light heavyweight contenders squaring off in the main event, but expect the expected 30,000 strong crowd to support local favorite Alexander Gustafsson, who is well known as the man who took champion Jon Jones to the limit in their 2013 bout. His opponent, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson of the US, struggled in an earlier UFC run with weight issues — but vaulted into title contention in his promotional return last year, with dominant wins over Phil Davis and Rogerio Nogueira. The American was greeted with polite applause at yesterday’s weigh in, where he made the 205 lb limit with a pound to spare.

Backing up the main event is an old legend in Dan Henderson against perennial contender Gegard Mousasi at middleweight, and a pairing of two top-ten rated light heavyweights in Phil Davis and Ryan Bader.

The action begins in less than an hour with preliminary bouts featuring regional European talent. We’ll bring the play-by-play action to you starting at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT and also feature results from the earlier bouts. Be sure to hit refresh often for the latest update!

Main Card (to be broadcast on FOX)

Featherweights: Akira Corassani vs. Sam Sicilia

Both guys known for their standup, but out on the fringe of contendership — and the loser may lost a job. The Swede Corassani gets a nice ovation. Sicilia, of Spokane, WA, is +105 underdog.

Round One: Sicilia with a nice leg kick, both guys bouncing in and out of range. 3-2 combo lands from Sicilia. They clinch against the cage, Corassani lands a right as they disengage. Good body kicks landing from Sicilia now; he just seems a step ahead. Corassani trying to get on the bicycle and circle but Sicilia out-landing as they exchange. Huge right overhand lands big and Corassani falls to the mat! All over!

Sam Sicilia defeated Akira Corassani by KO (overhand right punch) at 3:26 of round one.

Light Heavyweights: Phil Davis  vs. Ryan Bader

Davis is #5 in the UFC rankings, Bader is #7. Bader about a two to one to underdog. So often with two highly rated wrestlers it turns into a sloppy standup bout but I’m hopeful…

Round One: Bader circling, Davis stalking. Bader finally lands a left hook to begin the scoring after almost 90 sec. Davis in on a shot but Bader stuffs it and circles away. Davis looking for kicks from outsider now. Missed hook from Bader, nice right hand from Davis. About halfway through a round with little to separate these two. Crowd whistling the tepid “action.” Bader showing a good right hand counter as the round wears to a close. 10-9, Bader, but could easily be even.

Round Two: More tepid standup. They clinch to the cage. Bader with a hard elbow shot. Nice right hand by Davis, and a kick to the body. Davis staying on the outside and landing front and round kicks, on occasion anyway… not much action here and the normally reserved Swedish crowd begins to boo. I think I hear a “boring” chant, too. Bader catches a leg, Davis scrambles and ends with a takedown. Bader fights to his feet, while the rest of us fight to stay awake. 10-9, Davis.

Round Three: Davis looking for kicks from the outside, but Bader sees them coming a mile away. Jab from Bader. Davis circling away, lands a right. Bader with a front headlock, lands a knee to the shoulder of Davis. Davis with a shot, but he’s stuffed. Bader looking for the jab, Davis eye is swollen badly now. They circle to little effect as the whistles and boo’s continue. Phil lands a couple of leg kicks. Still, as the round grinds to a close, I think Bader’s jab was a little more effective. 10-9, Bader.

I’ve got it 29-28 Bader, with the slightly more effective striking in rounds one and three. Another writer refuses to score any rounds for either fighter:

Ryan Bader defeated Phil Davis by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Middleweights: Dan Henderson vs. Gegard Mousasi

44 year old Hendo returns to 185 against the 29 year old Mousasi who is a staggering -500 favorite.

Round One: Mousasi with leg kicks and straight punches. Big right drops Hendo to the canvas. He’s stunned, on his back, and Mousasi lets up. Ref steps in. Hendo back up and goes for a takedown but sorry — fight’s over.

Gegard Mousasi defeated Dan Henderson via TKO (punches) at 1:10 of round one.

Main event time!!!

Light Heavyweights: Anthony Johnson  vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Here we go. Gustafsson walks out to a dubstep version of the Swedish national anthem (I think). What an atmosphere!

Round One: Gustafsson on the outside on his bicycle as expected looking for his jab. Eye poke stops the action. Restart and Johnson lands a big right! Gustafsson shaken badly. High kick lands for Johnson. Gustafsson staggering around and Johnson follows him to the mat. Punches rain down from Johnson in turtle position and the fight is stopped!!!

Anthony Johnson defeated Alexander Gustafsson by TKO (punches) at 2:15 of round one.

That’s it! Thanks for joining us.
