Much of the spotlight was on Tim Kennedy tonight at “Fight for the Troops III”, and not only did the Army Ranger defeat Rafael Natal in the main event, he scored a highlight reel knockout.

As a result of thrilling finish, which came courtesy a leaping left hook, Kennedy was awarded “Knockout of the Night” honours. As per usual, Kennedy reportedly earned an extra $50,000 for the award.

With the win, Kennedy has won both of his UFC bouts to date, as the 34 year-old defeated Roger Gracie by unanimous decision at UFC 162 in August. The middleweight’s left hand also ended the three fight win streak of Rafael Natal, who was coming off victories over Tor Troeng, Joao Zeferino, and Sean Spencer.

“Submission of the Night” went to Michael Chiesa, who tapped out fellow TUF winner Colton Smith with a rear-naked-choke. The choke came seconds after Chiesa had slammed Smith to the ground. The lightweight, who has won eight bouts via submission to date, also picked up 50K for the award.

And “Fight of the Night” went to lightweights Rustam Khabilov and Jorge Masvidal, as their bout featured several memorable exchanges and moments. Khabilov worked his way to a unanimous decision win to record his sixth straight victory.
