The co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva was another quick upset victory by means of a brutal knockout, as Costas Philippou earned a first round stoppage of Lorenz Larkin in their middleweight encounter.

Larkin (of Riverside, CA) entered the cage a -260 favorite, and showed some of his vaunted standup attack to begin, rocking Philippou backwards with an uppercut. But Philippou, a +215 underdog who fights out of Long Island, NY (but who hails, originally, of Cyprus) soldiered on, responding with hard power shots of his own. A big left hook/straight right hand combination ended the contest at 3:47 of the first stanza.

Philippou would admit after the bout that he was stunned: “I’ve got to admit, I went numb.” But, as in the case in the evening’s previous bout where Daron Cruickshank defeated Erik Koch, he would recover — and the knockout victory again belonged to the underdog. Philippou improves to 13-4-1 overall with the win, and 6-3 in his UFC career. Larkin falls to 17-2-1 with the loss, and falls to 1-3 in the UFC.

At UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva, Costa Philippou defeats Lorenz Larkin by knockout (punches) at 3:47 of round one.
