Tim Boetsch had some dramatic wins via barbarian-ism in his earlier years with the UFC, but he’s had a tough go of it as of late. Josh Samman, meanwhile, was kicking a lot of ass until he ran into Tamdan McCrory in his last outing, so like Boetsch, he’s going to want to prove he belongs in the Octagon still.

They trade kicks in the opening seconds, then Samman immediately tries to take Boetsch down. “The Barbarian” shucks it off, and is soon tossing his foe to the canvas, where he assumes top position and starts making Samman less pretty. After about a minute Samman makes it back to his feet, where he inexplicably tries to take the wrestler down again. He gets pounded a bit for his troubles, and the last minute and a half sees Samman realize he taller and faster and thereby better suited to out-striking the Boetsch-meister.

The younger fighter comes out for Round 2 throwing kicks and punches, but Boetsch catches his foot and dumps him down, resuming making his life miserable on the ground. Initially, that misery comes in the form of a kimura attempt, but eventually he attains mount and simply beats the crap out of Samman’s face. It’s a great show of mercy when referee John McCarthy steps in.

Result: Tim Boetsch def. Josh Samman via TKO (Punches) at 3:49, R2
