There was a time when TJ Dillashaw was a TUF runner-up struggling to find a name for himself in the Octagon.

Then he got a shot at the belt, when its owner was the unbeatable Renan Barao, and oh man did the course of history change tracks dramatically.

On January 17, Dillashaw – now the bantamweight champ – will defend his title against the UFC’s first 135-pound champ, Dominick Cruz, who never lost the championship to anyone (he had to give up the belt due to injury). It’s a compelling match-up, as Dillashaw essentially does what Cruz does in fights, which is move so much opponents don’t know if they’re coming or going.

Anyway, here’s the fight where it all came together for Dillashaw. Watch and reminisce.
