There’s a mid-week UFC installment tomorrow night – UFC Fight Night 71 to be exact – and in true “mid-week UFC installment” form, it features a main event that will either thrill you or revolt you. Frank Mir, the former UFC champ who’s coming off a KO victory over “Bigfoot” Silva, will be taking on Todd Duffee in a heavyweight bout. The bad news is that that KO victory was Mir’s first win in five fights, with his last “W” coming back in 2011.

Duffee isn’t exactly a world-beater. His career is marked by big gaps in between fights due to injuries, and though he’s riding a three-fight win streak right now, his first foray into the UFC years ago ended in dismal failure. But he’s a big puncher when he wants to be, and Mir likes to eat big punches and then take a nap on the Octagon floor, which is a bad habit to have.

I’ve said that Mir should retire in the past, and I stick by that – his performance against Bigfoot notwithstanding. He’s done great things in the sport and has nothing left to prove. Clearly he’s just collecting a paycheck now, and that paycheck carries with it a high-degree of risk in terms of brain trauma.

Anyway, here’s Mir beating Mirko CroCop a few years back.
