And… it’s another Friday afternoon, it’s another lineup of grown half naked men taking turns stepping on and off a scale… for UFC Fight Night 40 from Cincinnati, Ohio!

Karyn Bryant calls UFC Fight Night 40 an explosive lineup. Not so sure, but it has a fun main event anyway.

She introduces Dominick Cruz, who hasn’t fought in three years or so, but is rated number nine in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings. Someone else can bring up Nate Diaz’s inactivity right now. Anyway, Cruz says he’s excited to fight again soon. Well, so are we, but it’s sure been a while. He adds a little insight but he sounds bored more than anything else. I just don’t think this is his calling.

Speaking of, Jon Anik starts us out by yelling “WHAT’S UP CINCINNATI!!!” Ugh.

First fight and we have our first problem. Anthony Lapsely strips down for his first attempt, and still only makes 174 for his welterweight bout. He has two hours to lose the three pounds and make weight.

Manny Gamburyan looked better than ever, and another old favorite from TUF in Ed Herman looked great too. Yan Cabral came to weigh-ins with sunglasses, looking like he just woke up, but weighed in successfully as well. “Sapo” Natal yelled in delight at his successful weigh-in. Lorenz Larkin wore a mask in tribute to the recently deceased Ultimate Warrior, but his opponent Costas Philippou was another fighter with a noticeably improved physique.

The main event of Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva is on and both guys look great. No handshake, just a nasty looking staredown between the two.

Otherwise, there’s not much to report — which, I suppose, is how it should be. A recent Cage Warriors show in the UK saw more than a third of its participants miss weight, which just can’t be tolerated.
