The first bout of the UFC Fight Night 39: Nogueira vs. Nelson main card in Abu Dhabi today ended in a big TKO victory for Ramsey Nijem, as he beat down Beneil Dariush, in what was something of a homecoming for both.
Both fighters are based in California, but have ties to the Middle East. Dariush was born in Iran, and Nijem is of Palestinian descent.
The two battled back and forth in standup, until Dariush was decked by a Nijem left hook. Nijem continued to attack with overpowering ground-and-pound — big punches and elbows to head and body. The official stopped the bout with 0:40 left in the stanza.
“Being Palestinian, it means a lot to come out here for you guys,” Nijem would say after the bout in a post-fight interview. “I’m here to bring a title to the Middle East!”
At UFC Fight Night 39: Nogueira vs. Nelson, Ramsey Nijem defeats Beneil Dariush by TKO (punches and elbows) at 4:20 of round one.
