The UFC is venturing onto mainland China with UFC Fight Night 122 this weekend, and the Shanghai-based event will be headlined by former champ Michael Bisping against Kelvin Gastelum.
Often, when the organization breaks into a new market, the card is rife with local fighters, and that certainly seems to be the case here, with most of the names on the roster very much not names you’d see in an American high school yearbook. But with Bisping, the UFC has a name that just might be recognizable to the locals who tune in or show up. After all, the last time the UFC was in the neighborhood, it was for a show in Macau – and Bisping TKO’d Cung Le at that one.
Does that make Michael Bisping an… Asian hero?
I don’t know about that. It’s worth pondering. In the meantime, here’s his fight against Le.
