We’ve pretty much squeezed all the greatness we’re going to get out of Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Alistair Overeem and the rest of the “old” heavyweights populating the division. This includes Mark Hunt, who gets to headline UFC Fight Night 110 opposite Derrick Lewis – Lewis being a member of the “new” crop, a crop which includes champ Stipe Miocic and, of course, Francis Ngannou. Clearly, the sole job of Hunt and the rest are to show up in the cage and perform as best as they can, and maybe their loss will put one of the new guys over (thereby increasing the new guy’s star power and momentum).
This sucks, but it’s the truth.
Which isn’t to say Hunt can’t win this weekend. He can. If anyone has a puncher’s chance, it’s him. But we’ve seen him hit his head against his personal ceiling in the division. Now it’s all about how good (or bad) he can make the newer blood in the heavyweights look as they climb toward a title shot.
Anyway, here’s a video on Lewis.
