The UFC Fight Night 101 main card kicks off with South Korean strawweight Seo Hee Ham taking on Danielle Taylor.

Small and yet exceedingly nimble for the division, Ham goes to work, meeting Taylor’s counter-centric boxing with a left hand that twice puts Taylor on shaky ground. The South Korean seems to have her opponent’s timing down from the get-go, so Taylor letting her strike first to counter isn’t so effective, and throughout the first and second rounds Taylor is moving back constantly. Two big right hands near the end of the second keep Taylor in the game, and although Ham takes her down close to the bell, you have to think┬áTaylor may have taken the round.

Ham wants to land that left, Taylor wants to land that counter right, and the third has both of them doing it for a bit. Taylor’s movement has gotten better though, and she’s able to stick and move and score. Unfortunately, Ham eats an eye poke (the second one of the fight), and when the ref refuses to acknowledge it, Taylor swarms. Ham survives, but all that aggression and punches landed have cost her.
