Originally, Corey Anderson was supposed to face Pat Cummins at UFC 217, but a bad staph infection left Cummins on the sidelines and had Ovince Saint Preux stepping in with just a few weeks notice. Will that late notice play a factor in OSP’s gas tank and preparation?

Anderson wastes no time showing his cards for this violent poker game, as he opens up the first round by scooping OSP up and slamming him down. When St. Preux gets up Anderson slams him again, and most of the rest of the round sees Anderson pressuring his foe against the cage while OSP struggles to stay upright. St. Preux tags Anderson during a flurry in the finals seconds of the frame, but otherwise, he’s trying to play catch up.

Determined to not get caught with OSP’s power striking, Anderson comes out in Round 2 firing off low-kicks and, when he gets in range, ducking down to wrestle. And again, it’s Anderson who seems to be imposing his will.

But this is a fight, and fortunes can change in a heartbeat –¬†and that heartbeat comes in the third round when OSP surgically plants a kick to the side of Anderson’s head. Anderson drops like a sack of potatoes, out cold.
