Rafael dos Anjos was the champ at lightweight for a while, and he racked up some hella impressive wins before falling to Eddie Alvarez. But he was a big 155 pounder, so now it’s time for him to try his luck at welterweight. His opponent for this UFC 215 co-main event: the always dangerous Neil Magny.
You’d think a move up in weight would make Dos Anjos comparatively less powerful, but that isn’t the case, because once Round 1 commences, he starts throwing kicks and sweeps Magny off his feet. The Brazilian is on him immediately, and despite having some potent jiu-jitsu skills himself, Magny can’t seem to halt Dos Anjos’ guard passing and move into mount. Magny eats leather a bit, tries to scramble, and is instantly caught in a head/arm choke. He tries to resist it, but the tap soon comes.
