Mark Hunt may have an iron head, but even iron can melt under the hottest fires.

Which is apparently what Alistair Overeem wields in his knees.

In the opening bout of the UFC 209 main card, these two heavyweight behemoths rematched after nearly nine years, and while Overeem took the first fight by submission (way back in DREAM), this time around it was all about making the Kiwi face-plant.

As big, ham-fisted men are wont to do, Overeem and Hunt took perilous chunks out of the other man’s consciousness – Overeem with explosive knees that he launched from way outside, Hunt with his massive, walloping punches. Yet both stayed upright and fought on, courageously covering up and firing back until it became too dangerous for anyone to stand too close. By Round 3, it seemed as if the Dutchman was ahead, but really, one strike could have ended it instantly for either man.

The final sequence came early in the third, with Overeem backing Hunt against the cage and unloading with knees to the head. When one caught Hunt flush, BOOM! That was all she wrote.
