UFC 203’s main event is all about the newly-crowned heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic defending his title in his hometown against challenger – a seasoned vet – Alistair Overeem. Both men are dangerous strikers, with Overeem sporting the edge in kickboxing skill and Miocic just a tad more killer with his boxing.
Overeem is wary of the champ’s power, and makes no bones about turning and running to avoid Miocic’s fury. But in an instant Overeem has dropped Miocic with a left, and Miocic is suddenly struggling to escape from a guillotine attempt. He does, and Miocic resumes chasing him down, but these two take turns dinging each other with crushing fists to the face, and for a few moments it seems like the heavyweight belt could go to anyone. However, Miocic soon proves why he’s king, getting his opponent down and raining down some deadly ground and pound from above. After a few seconds of that, Overeem is asleep.
Result: Stipe Miocic def. Alistair Overeem via KO (Punches) at 4:27, R1
