Conor McGregor was a nobody a few years ago, but then activated the full potential of his mystical mouth and suddenly became one of the hottest stars in the sport.

Of course, he still had to prove himself in the Octagon if he truly wanted greatness. Enter: Chad Mendes, who may have been a late replacement, but who seemed to have the skillset and abilities that would test the Irishmen in the cage.

And test him Mendes did. For a while, at least.
