It may have been a last-minute pairing between a trash-talking Irishman and a trash-talking dude from Stockton, C.A., but reputation, chemistry, the promise of violence, and – ultimately – the delivery of that violence, made the initial meeting between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz one of the biggest UFC fights of all time. Seriously.

Sure, UFC 100 was big and roped in a lot of pay-per-view buys, but it was supposed to be that big, carefully orchestrated with superstar match-ups that guaranteed viewers would tune in. But UFC 196 was a surprise, a shock that reverberated long after the final cheers had died down. And now McGregor and Diaz are rematching at UFC 202 later this month. Exciting, eh?
