Gather around, kids, and I’ll tell you the tale of the legend of Diego Sanchez.
Once, when the sport was on the verge of mainstream awareness but still not quite there, a young, wild untamed bronco named “Diego” won the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. Few could rival his intensity, and fewer still could rival his seemingly tenuous grip on reality. But there he was, beating on people while barely containing the spittle in his mouth – and everyone loved it!
Sanchez fights once more in the Octagon (his 23rd time!) on Saturday, in the “main event” of the Fight Pass prelims for UFC 196. Time and age have taken their toll of course. But maybe, if you squint in his fight against Jim Miller, you can catch a peek at the man that once was.
Maybe you can see the legend.
