Weigh-ins for UFC 183 are in the books, with headliners Nick Diaz and Anderson Silva both on weight — and ready for tomorrow’s main event.

“He’s the best there is, ” Diaz said of his opponent in a brief interview. “Thanks to everyone for standing by me.”

Silva was also interviewed, and showed his improving English skills.

“I’m so happy,” Anderson said, about coming back to fight after a horrific leg injury over one year ago. “This is me, this is my life.”

But it wasn’t all smiles, as there were two fighters overweight — by a substantial amount.

First, John Lineker, who has a history of missing weight, was five pounds over for his flyweight bout against Ian McCall. It has been reported that he will not weigh again, and will forfeit a percentage of his purse — but the fight will go on at a catch-weight.

Second, Kelvin Gastelum was a full ten pounds overweight for his welterweight bout against Tyron Woodley. Gastelum was one and 1/2 pounds over for his bout last July at UFC Fight Night 44. It has been announced that Gastelum will forfeit a full 30% of his purse, but the fight will go on.

There was already a feeling of oddness preceding this show’s weigh-ins, including a missed flight for Diaz. UFC President Dana White looked a little tired, possibly frustrated by the recent news regarding Chris Weidman.

There were a few moments of pageantry as well. Among the fighters, Englishman Tom Watson stood out by showing a sort of patriotic fervor, with the Union Jack emblazoned on his socks as he walked to the scale. Watson wore khakis and a Rolling Stones T-shirt.

Miesha Tate waved a flag for her hometown Seattle Seahawks, who play in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
