The twenty two fighters scheduled to compete at UFC 179 completed their weigh-ins today in Rio de Jainero, Brazil.
Every athlete on the the main card weighed in successfully, including the combatants in the main event: UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, and challenger Chad Mendes.
However, three fighters scheduled among the event’s preliminary bouts weighed in over their respective weight limits.
Tony Martin and Fabricio Camoes, who will compete against one another in the evening’s first bout, both failed to make the lightweight limit. Martin was 157, Camoes 158. Their bout will go on as a “catch-weight” bout of 158 and will be broadcast on UFC’s online subscription service, UFC Fight Pass.
Also, Scott Jorgenson missed weight for his flyweight bout against Wilson Reis. Jorgenson weighed in at 128 lbs. The bout will also continue as scheduled at a “catch-weight” of 128 lbs.
Outside of title bouts, fighters are allowed to weigh one pound over weight division’s limit.
