A bout between bantamweight prospects began the UFC 175 PPV broadcast tonight in Las Vegas, with 27 year old Russell Doane earning his second UFC win in as many tries with a split decision victory over Marcus Brimage.

Doane fought back from some rough spots in the bout, as Brimage, 29, of Alabama, established his jab early. But Doane earned a takedown to establish back control throughout much of that first stanza, landing strikes and threatening submissions to likely earn the judges’ favor. Brimage’s leg kicks bothered the Hawaiian in the second round, but at the end — Doane was able to land enough of his combinations and takedowns to secure the win.

Brimage was a -110 favorite; the victim of a minor upset on what began as a night of upsets. Betting favorites won only one of the first seven UFC 175 bouts.

Brimage drops to 8-3 following his second straight loss. Doane rises to 14-3.

At UFC 175, Russell Doane defeated Marcus Brimage by split decision (30-27, 28-29, and 29-28).
