In the third bout of UFC 172, and the second of the Fox Sports 1 preliminary broadcast, Ronda Rousey’s protege Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke fell in defeat to the kickboxing attack of Bethe “Pit Bull” Correira.
The 5’11” Duke, most recognizable for her run on The Ultimate Fighter under Rousey (who continues to train and corner her), struggled with her opponent’s movement throughout the bout’s three rounds. The 5’4″ Correira, of Brazil, fired leg kicks at will, and also acquitted herself well with hand combinations, outmaneuvering Duke for overhands, hooks, and a few spinning back-fists.
Duke failed to establish her jab, but did score several takedowns and attacked with several submissions. But each round, and the bout, belonged to Correira.
The bout was basically an even-money fight in the odds-makers’ eyes, with Duke ranked #12 in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight rankings, and Correira ranked #14. Correira rises to 8-0 in her MMA career, as Duke falls to 3-1-1.
At UFC 172, Bethe Correira defeated Jessamyn Duke by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, and 30-27).
