A busy week of fight confirmations and scratches continues to roll, as former TUF 13 winner Tony Ferguson will reportedly fight Mike Rio at UFC 166 on October 19th. If you haven’t already marked that event down on your mental calendar do so, since the Houston bound event will feature Cain Velasquez-Junior dos Santos III.
According to a report from the Houston Chronicle, UFC officials have confirmed the Ferguson-Rio match-up to the media outlet.
Ferguson (13-3) will be looking to get back on track, after he was handed a unanimous decision loss by fellow TUF vet Michael Johnson in May, 2012. The defeat ended the 29 year-old Ferguson’s six fight win streak, which included Octagon victories over Aaron Riley, Yves Edwards and Ramsey Nijem.
Rio (9-2) competed on the 15th season of TUF and since then “The Wolverine” has gone 1-1 under the UFC banner. After tapping out John Cofer with an armbar at the TUF 16 Finale, the 32 year-old lightweight was submitted by Franciso Trinaldo this past May at UFC on FX 8.
UFC 166 will be hosted by Houston’s Toyota Center, and in addition to Velasquez-dos Santos III, will feature Hector Lombard’s welterweight debut versus Nate Marquardt. The card will also see former Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez throw down with Diego Sanchez.
Since the headliner is a pretty, pretty massive fight, the main card will be available, of course, via pay-per-view.
