Daniel Cormier successfully extended his undefeated MMA record at UFC 166 in Houston tonight, as he dominated Roy Nelson with superior boxing and the occasional takedown en route to a unanimous decision victory.
Cormier landed with lefts and rights throughout the bout, avoiding Nelson’s wild punching in the first stanza and out-boxing him throughout the second and third. Cormier scored a few takedowns for some ground-and-pound early in the bout, as well.
Cormier is now 13-0 in his MMA career. In his post fight interview, Cormier announced he would go down to light heavyweight in his next bout where he will pursue the UFC light heavyweight title.
Nelson was coming off another decision loss, to Stipe Miocic in June. At 37, Nelson was the oldest competitor on card and among its biggest underdogs (+450). His record drops to 19-9.
At UFC 166, Daniel Cormier defeated Roy Nelson by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
