Surging lightweight TJ Grant will get his chance to become the first man to defeat champion Benson Henderson in the Octagon on August 31st, as the promotion has announced that the two will fight at UFC 164. The bout will of course headline the card, which will go down in Milwaukee’s Bradley Center.

If you haven’t been following the lightweight title shot mix in the UFC as of late, then you may have missed the fact that Grant has been bulldozing his way up the rankings since he abandoned welterweight in 2011. Since then, the 29 year-old has scored wins over Shane Roller, Carlo Prater, Evan Dunham, Matt Wiman and most recently Gray Maynard. The last two wins were particularly impressive, as Grant showcased vicious striking combinations and put away both men in the opening round.

Henderson continues to roll, close decisions or not, and has now won seven straight since arriving in the UFC. In April he squeaked by former Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez with a split decision win, after cruising through Nate Diaz for the UD victory in December.

So, while the August 17th, UFC on FOX Sports 1 card has been stirring up quite the buzz recently (having Chael Sonnen fight “Shogun” Rua will do that), UFC 164 is also looking pretty sweet. Other bouts that have been previously announced include Josh Barnett vs. Frank Mir, Chad Mendes vs. Clay Guida and Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier. Nothing wrong with that.
