It looks like Quinn Mulhern is the latest UFC vet who has decided to change things up, as the former King of the Cage champ has confirmed he’s moving from welterweight to lightweight for his next bout. In addition, the BJJ brown belt has relayed that he will fight Ryan Couture at UFC 164 on August 164.
Mulhern recently posted on his Twitter account:
Well it’s out there already so I guess I should tweet it now: me vs Ryan Couture at #UFC164. Debut at lightweight. Exciting shit
Yes, it is exciting, particularly if his bout with Couture hits the ground. Mulhern (18-3) is coming off his UFC debut in March, when he was stopped by Rick Story in the opening round. The 28 year-old fighter had won three straight bouts with Strikeforce heading into the tilt, which included a split decision win over Yuri Villefort. Mulhern is 8-2 in his last 10 fights, with his only other loss during that stretch coming via unanimous decision to Jason High.
Couture (6-2) is also in need of a win, as the lightweight was stopped by Ross Pearson in his last outing at UFC on FUEL TV 9 in April. The 30 year-old son of UFC legend Randy Couture had won four consecutive bouts prior to the loss, which was also his Octagon debut.
UFC 164 will be hosted by the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, and will feature UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson taking on TJ Grant in the main event.
